My First Designer Bind
I found out recently that I had a colleague of mine writes novels in his spare time. Detective Novels set in Edinburgh.
I offered to make them a leather bound edition, and they accepted.
We have the murder weapon and the water logged burial place, with copious amounts of Edinburgh rain. I used coloured foil for the decoration, and did a cased book with sewn end bands.
It was a nice challenge working in leather again. This I think is my fifth leather book, and the first one which I didn't have a geometric design on the front.
I picked up a cheap USB soldering iron that could handle low temperatures. Its an S99, and it works wonderfully, especially when my alternative is a hot plate and guesswork with temperature on my hand tools.
This was the first time I attempted to do block colouring, and it is passable, but I prefer line art when it comes to tooling.
